  Ladies and Gentlemen, Good afternoon!

I’m very glad to stand here and give you a short speech. Today my topic is “youth”. I hope you will like it, and found the importance in your youth so that more cherish it.

First I want to ask you some questions:

1、Do you know what is youth? 2、How do you master your youth?

  Youth

Youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind; it is not rosy cheeks , red lips and supple knees, it is a matter of the emotions : it is the freshness ; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life .

Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite, for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20 . Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.

Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self –distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.

Whether 60 of 16, there is in every human being ‘s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what’s next and the joy of the game of living . In the center of your heart and my heart there’s a wireless station: so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope ,cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long as you are young .

When the aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old ,even at 20 , but as long as your aerials are up ,to catch waves of optimism , there is hope you may die young at 80.

  Thank you!

  Hello everybody!

My name is lw54,** years old this year. In July I *** ** Normal School Art Teacher Fine Arts graduate program at their own expense. As from 97 countries no longer their own expense since health package distribution,so that I and "the most brilliant career under the sun" missed. Fortunately,at River West Malaysia factory complete lack of small teacher, was introduced, small as I completed one year of the temporary supply teachers. Recall that period of time both sweet and really good, although substitute low wages, but listening to students around the side of "teacher","teacher" is called a stop, looked full of confidence which both eyes, then draw a childish little face, all the unhappiness in life have suddenly vanished. I wanted,if not to positive,as long as the school needs, that is,when the life I willingly substitute teachers. But then, countries started in 1998 and return of temporary and substitute teachers, the school received an oral notice,

I harbored feelings reluctantly and quietly left the school.

Today,I would like to re-examination by the aspirations of the rostrum is so urgent! My family a total of three sisters, two sisters who work,in order to take care of the elderly parents,I have to stay around them. I have held a shop, first operational craft, then garments. But no matter how the business is handy, when a teacher is always glorious people yearn for and I would like to make every effort to pursue life-long career. I have to take the test several times, but for various reasons are unable to realize their dreams, but I secretly determined, given the chance,I have been test continue until the ideal realized.

Today,I am,after the test of life, compared to my competitors in terms of age I no longer have an advantage, but I

It has been nearly 10 years since Li Lingling, a Wuhan university student, became the first person to start a business independently by Chinese college students in 1999. More and more college students entrepreneurs appear around us. College students start their business. They are no longer a noun. The real characters and colorful experiences make us feel the vitality of College Students' independent entrepreneurship. Through these already entrepreneurial college students, we try to outline the group and current situation of the entrepreneurship of Qingdao university students, and explore the way of entrepreneurship for college students.

20xx, for the graduates of Qingdao, it can be regarded as the first year of entrepreneurship. It seems that in one night, entrepreneurs emerge around us, some of them from Qingdao universities, some are Qingdao local people. And the industries they involve are more diverse. From them, we see the rise of the group of College Students' entrepreneurship. These "post-80s" entrepreneurs are using their own actions to open up a field belonging to themselves.

Gaoyulong and Li Chao, founded Qingdao ten year Environmental Art Design Co., Ltd; Linxiaoping, founded u+ yoga hall; Tang chongyun and zhangyongtao founded Qingdao City online; Nie Mingyong, founded Qingdao New Field Information Service Co., Ltd; Xiaoyiyang and Yangguan founded Qingdao Kesheng Network Technology Co., Ltd.. All of them founded their own companies around 20xx, changing their identity from students to businessmen, representing the ideal of contemporary college students about entrepreneurship.

In July, 20xx, a survey by Beijing University students entrepreneurship guidance center showed that 72% of the respondents had entrepreneurial intention. A 20xx survey from Shanghai showed that the proportion of students with entrepreneurial dreams exceeded 70%. A survey from Qingdao University of technology also showed that 93.1% of students in school agreed that "entrepreneurship is a way of life and life experience".

Although the entrepreneurs of college students in Qingdao are not much, they have attracted people's attention from the beginning. We can't classify and summarize the scope of these people's entrepreneurship, some of them are combined with their own specialties - such as gaoyulong, Li Chao, etc., and others have nothing to do with their own professional, such as linxiaoping, who founded yoga Museum“ For entrepreneurship, the definition of young people is still relatively broad and diversified“ Shen Wenqing, director of student division of Qingdao University of technology, told reporters that more than half of the college students believe that whether it is "several people jointly open a small company", "run an IT company", "sell things by stall", "open a small restaurant" or "open a shop on the Internet" are regarded as entrepreneurship.

"When I was a freshman, I read a book about entrepreneurship for college students. It tells stories about entrepreneurship of Tsinghua university students. I am encouraged and I am determined to start my own company in the future." Because of his own entrepreneurial experience, Nie Mingyong, who was rated as 20xx China's university student self-improvement star, said. He and reporters said that the overall social environment is still conducive to the entrepreneurship of college students. As a student in school, he registered the company, and some people questioned and encouraged, "some people think that I am not mature in entrepreneurship, and it is not suitable for entrepreneurship from experience, capital and energy. But there are also many people who encourage me to support and approve of my entrepreneurship and think young people should rush in“

Like Nie Mingyong, Xiao Yiyang and Yang college, relying on the network technology they learned in University and the income from working as web pages, established Qingdao Kesheng Network Technology Co., Ltd. the second month after graduation. Xiao said his parents all hope that he has a stable job, and it is difficult to graduate and start a business. There are no business related friends and relatives in his family. "Comfort is not what we want, but only constant challenges and continuous progress are our destination." Xiao said. With the establishment of the company and the achievement of one performance after another, Xiao Yiyang's parents have changed from the initial opposition to support. In order to support Xiao Yiyang, the family has also invested in the development of the company.

Compared with them, gaoyulong and Li Chao are more fortunate, from the idea of opening Internet cafes to selling hidden accessories, and finally doing their own old line design. They have the help of the teachers and the kind people all the way. To do it for themselves, they said it was a sense of self-control of their lives. Gaoyulong and Li Chao said they like it. Although they are busy everyday, they feel very full.

Li Dong, vice president of Qingdao University of technology, believes that there are many reasons for entrepreneurship of college students. However, without exception, their entrepreneurial purpose points to the realization of life value. "In the realization of their self-worth in life, they mainly include creating wealth through entrepreneurship, doing a career through entrepreneurship, and completing their social mission through entrepreneurship Contribute to society through entrepreneurship.

They all want to have a magnificent life“

  Good morning,ladies and gentlemen

today I am so happy to stand here to give you a speech.or rather, a real story of mine.

Though with time going by,I can still remember what you once told me.you should be a brave girl.smiling, you looked into my eyes.year in,year out, nearly most of my memories are fading little by little.but only this simple sentence remained, without being forgotten in my life.

Again and again,I can not stop myself from thinking about it.soordinary, but so impressive,so moving, just like the brightest sunshine,it helps me go through the darkest night.I am such a sensitive girl in your heart.you said,my sorroful facial expression made feel so

Distersssed.however, there is one thing I never tell you, that is ,I am becoming a big girl gradually with your words and smiles.I never tell you about it,for I believe oneday, you can see the great changes of mine for yourself.that is what I want to do in return.as I know, that will be the best gift for you.

I suddenly think of a song named my heart will go on.there is a beautiful sentence going like this.you are safe in my heart.more than once,I was moved to tears by it.I know ,I am also safe in your heart.I have already forgotten when I told you I was going to leave for australia this summer holiday.you just smiled as usual, gently speaking.whatever you decide to do,I will be in favor of it,but, just onething, remember, when you fell lonely abroad,do not forget we are here ,praying for you.we are all around you,far across the distance and space between us.I closed my eyes, the flashback started.the memories we had together, once we played games on the palyground,we played jokes on each other, you always wrote a lot of sentences on my articles to encourage me.and the most unforgetable thing, you told me,you believed I could be a big girl.sooner or later. at that specific moment,I suddenly understood the meaning of thissentence totally.so on that day,I smiled as you used to,looking at you.the last words I said were, keep walking in sunshine.

Yes,keep walking in sunshine.I said to you ,also to myself.I know I am not alone wiht your company, and we can keep walking in sunshine till the last minute of our days.

  I promise,I will be a big girl. I promise,I will be a brave girl.

I promise,I will keep walking in sunshine.

  That is my speech,thank you!

大學(xué)生英語(yǔ)演講稿8

  Good morning, ladies and gentlemen,

When I was little, I lived in a remote village in southern China with my grandparents. Like many kids in the countryside, I enjoyed digging a hole in the opening among paddy fields, using branches and hay to bake sweet potatoes and playing hawk-and-chicken with my friends. Every Chinese New Year Eve, my grandmother would prepare our festive food called Guo. It was a tradition that neighbors help each other prepare Guo. While adults were busy pouring flour on the cutting board, pressing the paste flat and moulding it into beautiful shape, kids would run around in the village’s ancestral temple and immerse ourselves in the enchanting and cheerful smell of holiday.

Having lived in the city for the following ten years, I always feel the changes happening in my hometown every time I go back--the village looks surprisingly similar to the coastal city where I live! The opening field where I baked potatoes was leveled and a manufacturing factory has been built there, blocking the sunlight of our yard. The ancestral temple has been torn down and is now a small supermarket for villagers. The number of people knowing how to prepare Guo is diminishing and young people seem to be more interested in fast food and oblivious of traditional arts and skills. The village seems quite empty because most young people have become migrant workers in cities and only return home once or twice a year.

In the course of urbanization, villages gradually languish and die out when the passing on of traditions lose its population base. The total number of Chinese villages has declined from 3.7 million in 20xx to 2.6 million in 20xx. Approximately 300 villages in China are disappearing every day. It’s saddening to see that many ancient villages, which survived warfare and natural disasters over thousands of years, have been demolished or annexed by cities in peacetime. Lulei Village, hometown for the famous mathematician, Chen Jingrun, was an affluent village in southern China with a history of over 700 years. Since the village obstructed the construction of the local railway station, it was almost torn down, including the former residence for Chen’s family.

We Chinese have been reveling in urbanization for decades. What worries me is that one day on this way to modernization, we turn back but are unable to see the link with our origins and ancestors. When we’re surrounded by skyscrapers and neon glamour, what defines us as Chinese? Urbanization does not mean brutally encroaching upon the countryside and strangling rural culture. It should not sever the ties with our beloved homeland. While promoting the country’s economy, it should also allow space for cultural diversity. In the ideal urbanization process, we should no longer emphasize the binary opposition of city and village, but endeavor to form a reciprocal relationship between the two.

Ladies and gentlemen, fallen leaves return to the roots. If we do not redefine and reorient urbanization, we will not be able to save millions of villages, neither can we revert to the origin where we belong.

  Thank you.

大學(xué)生英語(yǔ)演講稿9

In my 18 years of life, there have been many things. University days are the best part of them. I can never forget the days when I stepped into my university. I was impressed by its garden-like campus, its enthusiastic students and especially its learning atmosphere. I at once fell in love with it.

After the arduous military training, I get absolutely absorbed in my studies. The classes given by the teachers are excellent. They provide us with information not only from our textbooks but from many other sources as well. They easily arouse my insatiable desire to take in as much as I can.

Frankly speaking, at first I had some difficulty following the teachers. However, through my own efforts and thanks to my teachers’ guidance, I made remarkable&

nbsp;progress. Now I’ve benefited a lot from lectures and many other academic reports.

Learning is a long process; I’ll keep exploring in the treasure house of knowledge to enrich myself. This summer I got out of the ivory tower and entered the real world. A publishing house offered me a part-time job in compilation and revision.

At the beginning I was belittled by my colleagues. But they were really surprised when I translated seven English articles over 5,000 words on only one day. Gradually, they began to look at me with respectful eyes. In their opinion I turned out to be a useful and trustworthy colleague.

I also realize that only those who bring happiness for others can be truly happy. So I often take part in activities co

ncerning public welfare. I once went to a barren mountain village with my classmates. We taught the kids there who could not afford school. While showing them how broad and how civilized the outer world is, I was deeply touched by their eagerness to learn, their honesty and their purity. I couldn’t control my tears on the day when we left. The precious experience with the poor kids made me aware of the responsibility on the shoulders of us, future teachers.

Besides study and social practice, there are entertainments as well. I do body building every day, hoping to keep healthy and energetic. We also write a play and put it on in our spare time.HXen

Campus life is the most splendid time. But different people have different choices. Themajority of students cherish their beautiful season and cherish the hope that one day they’ll become outstanding. But there are indeed some students still under ignorance. They gather together for eating, drinking or playing cards. They’re busy in searching for a girlfriend or a boyfriend. They forget completely about their mission as college students and the hope of their motherland.

Finally, I do hope everybody can try their best to become a worthy citizen of the country. I do hope everybody can become the backbone of our nation and make great contributions to society!

  What is nature

What is nature? It's everything that exists in the world independently of people, such as pants and animals, earth and rocks, and the weather.

Now more and more people are focusing on the nature. It is no doubt that the nature is important to every human being. No nature, no life. Because of the supplies of the nature, we have lived happily for a long time. And we started to gain every thing available from the nature. And this lasted so long a time. Today, people have discovered that the nature around is getting worse and worse.

What is threatening the nature? Air and water pollution, overharvesting of plant and animal species, overpopulation and so on. Overpopulation is the biggest source of pollution. Let's take overpopulation as an example.

What does overpopulation feel like? When we move slowly through the city in a tazi. When we enter a crowded slum district. When the temperature is high and when the air is thick with dust and smoke. The streets are crowded with people. The streets seem alive with people. People eating. People washing. People talking. People sleeping. People visiting each other, arguing and screaming. People relieving themselves. People pushing their hands through the taxi windows, begging. People leading animals. People, people, people, people. As we drive slowly through the crowd, sounding the taxi's horn, the dust, heat, noise and cooking fires made it like a scene from hell! I admit, frightening.

To the nature, overpopulation is a big problem. More people, more pollution. And the big population is threatening the nature every second.

The rapid rise in world population is not creating problems only for the developing countries. The whole world faces the problem that raw materials are being used up at an increasing rate and food production can not keep up with the population increase. People in rich countries make the heaviest demands on the world's resources, its food, fuel and land, and cause the most pollution. A baby born in the United States will use in his lifetime 30 times more of the world's resources than a baby born in India. Unless all the countries of the world take united action to deal with the population explosion there will be more and more people fighting for a share of less and less land, food and fuel, and the future will bring poverty, misery and war to us all.

  Tribute to the dog

  Gentlemen of the Jury:

The best friend a man has in the world may turn against him and bee his enemy. His son or daughter that he has reared with loving care may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name may bee traitors to their faith.

The money that a man has, he may lose. It flies away from him, perhaps when he needs it most. A man's reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered action. The people who are prone to fall on their knees to do us honor when suess is with us, may be the first to throw the stone of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our heads.

The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous is his dog. A man's dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer.

He will lick the wounds and sores that e in encounters with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wings, and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens.

If fortune drives the master forth, an outcast in the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of aompanying him, to guard him against danger, to fight against his enemies. And when the last scene of all es, and death takes his master in its embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by the graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad, but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true even in death.

Most people would like to be popular with others, but not everyone can achieve this goal. What is the secret to popularity? In fact, it is very simple. The first step is to improve our appearance. We should always make sure that we stay in good shape and dress well. When we are healthy and well'groomed, we will not only look better but also feel better. In addition, we should smile and appear friendly. After all, our facial expression is an important part of our appearance. If we can do this, people will be attracted to our good looks and impressed by our confidence.

Another important step is developing more consideration for others. We should always put others first and place their interests before our own. It's also important to be good listeners; in this way people will feel fortable enough to confide in us. However, no matter what we do, we must not gossip. Above all, we must remember to be ourselves, not phonies. Only by being sincere and respectful of others can we earn their respect. If we can do all of the above, I am sure popularity will e our way.

We've all been taught that we should help people. It is the right thing to do and will make us popular with others. It may even win us favors in return. However, we must be realistic. We can't say yes to every request. If we did, we would fail or go crazy for sure. Sometimes we simply don't have the time to help. In this case, we must know how to say no politely.

When we need to say no, here is one method we can try. First, we should ___ the truth. If we really can't do something, we should just say so. Second, we should remember to refuse requests politely. We must municate clearly, but must also be sincere and sympathetic. A true friend will understand. Finally, we must not feel guilty about saying no. Sometimes refusing others is the right thing to do. It can save ourselves, and them, a lot of trouble. In short, we cannot please everyone all the time. Refusing favors is a part of life.

there is only one failure called never try What is success? Different people have different ideas. You may say success is the realization of ones hopesand justified goals.Under such notion, however, people have different understanding of success because the hopes and goals they cherish vary from one another.there may ba so mangy kinds of success in the world that i cant enumerate them all.So maybe its difficult to set a defination for success. But ,in my opinion, its easy to define what is failure---there is only one failure called never try.Everyone has his dreams but not all of them dare to make it come true.Just like a huter aimed at his game but never fire or a soldier who crying out but never toward. They are afraid of failure that they might encounter. That reminds me of a game we used to play.We put the chairs in a circle. And the player must pass through th barriers made by the chairs with his eyes covered up.He would be allowed to memorize the positions of the chairs. But as soon as his eyes is covered,we will remove all the chairs.Sometimes, our life is just like such kind of game.We tried our best not to bump against the barriers. But these things turn out to be existing only in our minds. And sometimes,we made them for ourselves. We dare not to participate a competition or get cold feet to call the boy or girl we love.It turns out that the barriers we made for ourselves lead to the loss of a lot of things.Dont give up trying untill you really bump against the chairs.Even so,at least you have a place to sit on.Some people would say i tried but i failed to pass an exam or to find a job.Iam a failure .But on the contrary,i prefer to call these things setbacks instead of failures. There is no failure in a winner s dictionary. It doesnt matter i you have a tumble , what really matters is that you lose the courage to stand up and give it another try.The process is full of tears and pains.Just look back on how we learn to walk when we are young. If we gave up easily, today we may only crawl .If Tomas Edison gave up easily in finding a proper material to make a bulb, maybe we will live in the darkness after the sunset.Perhaps we need some torches to go on with our competition.I,myself,a shy person by nature who easily suffers from stage fright, had to get up my courage to take part in this speech contest like this.I could have stayed away and had an easy time of it by not coming here. But i chose to accept the challenge and to face the difficulties.

Now here i am.I will try my best because i know i would broaden my horizon and make a lot of friends here.I still remember the first time i sang a song at a party ,the first time talking to a foreign friends, the first time made a speech on the platform, etc.Although at first they almost scared me to death, but when it was over,i feel its worthing trying. There is a saying goes, people often reGREt what they didnt do instead of what they have done.Forrest Gump often says, life is like a box of chacolate ,you never know what you are gonna get.

I would say if the chacolate you got is not your favourite.Dont get upset but try the next.

Mistakes and errors are the disciplined true which we advance in akes are great teachers. Success comes to those who are willing to riskmaking mistakes in the pursuit of their goals and aspirations, and who are ableto learn from those mistakes. And in order to learn from mistakes you must bewilling to pay for them.

Mistakes can be enormously valuable, but when you try to get others to payfor your mistakes, then you deprive yourself of the opportunity to learn fromthem. When something goes wrong, it's usually very easy to find someone else toblame, but what does that really accomplish?

Much of the value of mistakes comes from the fact that they demand a costthat must be paid. The person who learns the most from a mistake is the personwho pays the price for that mistake.

When you make a mistake, the lastthing you want to do is run away from need to accept it because you can learn a lot from it. The mistake has beenmade, so make the most of it. Pay the price, learn the lesson, and grow thatmuch stronger.

When you make a mistake, don't look back at it long. Remember the reasonfor it, and then look forward. Mistakes are lessons of wisdom. The past cannotbe changed. The present is still in your power. Take full advantage of yourmistakes to achieve your goals and aspirations.

Nothing is difficult if you put your heart on it. Nothing is easy if you don’t try your best.

We often hear people say,“Never give up.” This can be encouraging words and words of determination. A person who believes in them will keep trying to reach his goal no matter how many times he fails. In my opinion, the quality of determination to succeed is an important one to have. Therefore,I believe that we should never give up.

One reason is that if we give up too easily,we will rarely achieve anything. It is not unusual for us to fail in our first attempt at something new,so we should not feel discouraged and should try again. Besides,if we always give up when we fail,we will not be able to develop new skills and grow as people. Another reason we should never give up is that we can learn from our mistakes only if we make a new effort.

If we do not try again, the lesson we have learned is wasted. Finally,we should never give up because as we work to reach our goals,we develop confidence, and this confidence can help us succeed in other areas of our lives.

Probably the greatest example of persistence is Abraham Lincoln. Born into poverty,Lincoln was faced with defeat throughout his life. He lost eight elections, twice failed in business and suffered a nervous breakdown.

He could have quit many times - but he didn't and because he didn't quit,he became one of the greatest presidents in the history of our country.

Lincoln was a champion and he never gave up.

In short,it is important that we don’t give up when working for our goals. Whether we succeed in the end or not,we will learn something, and what we learn will help us to bee better, more confident people. Furthermore,if we give up,we have no chance of attaining our goals, but if we keep trying, there is always a chance that we will succeed one day.Thank you very much!

Good morning everyone ,befor our class,I’m going to share something about basketball ,something about NBA.

As one of millions NBA fans ,I’ve been watching NBA games for about six

years ,for ,as you know ,the NBA court is really an amazing place where miracles happen frequently.Especially when there is a buzzer beater taking place at the end of zhe game ,it’s absolutely the most excting point in the game. Do you

know how popular the NBA is in China? Look at these pictures , celebrities from different fields are watching the game in the stadium. And this picture reflects how popular it is among college students.

No one may have never heared something about Kobe ,lenbron James ,jaordan, but I believe not everyone know the origin of basketball.

Dr.James Naismith, a Canadian who was teaching at Springfield College in Massachusetts needed to come up with a game to entertain the school’s rugby and football players during the winter months.

So he grabbed a peach basket he found in the janitor’s closet of the school and hung it on a railing about ten feet from the floor.

Every time the players made a shot though, they had to take down the basket and grab the ball, which became really annoying. Dr.Naismith decided to cut a hole in the basket so the ball would go straight through without having to dig it out all the time

The sport was an instant success and the popularity of this new game quickly grew. Althoough Nasimith never saw the game develop into the spectacular game we know these days, he had the honor to witness basketball become an Olympic sport at the 1936 Games held in Berlin.

A group of team owners met on June 6, 1946, in New York to talk about a league they would name the Basketball Association of America. This meeting was the beginning of what we know today as the NBA.

NBA’s full name is National Basketball Association

And today there are 30 teams in the association .And in recent days the regular season has began. And the games are very excting .If you have any interst , you could watch them in the morning everyday.

Never Lose the Vision of Reality

Talking about dreams and future, I would say, dreams should not be too far from reality. Detaching from reality, lacking solid and practical actions, any future plan, and dream project will be nothing short of daydreaming, or, at most, well-intentioned thinking.

Here I am reminded of the year 20xx, when 191 member states of the United Nations held a World Summit Conference, which made a declaration known as the Millennium [mi'leni?m] 千年期 Development Goals. The goals for 20xx, which all the member states pledged[pled?] 保證,許諾to meet, were such as elimination除去 of hunger and poverty, drastic reductions in child mortality [m?:'t?l?ti]死亡率rates, reversing the spread of AIDS and other deadly diseases et cetera [it'setr?]等等。

Now, 6 years later, almost half way to the final year of 20xx, do we see some signs of realizing the pledged goals? Today, half the world---nearly three billion people, still live on less than two U.S. dollars a day; in the world today 270 million children have no access to safe water, about 11 million children die before they reach the age of five each year. Have we come to harness 治理the spread of AIDS? The

answer is also no, and indeed is spreading faster and wider than ever before.

What is even worse, in the wake of the Iraqi[i'ra:ki]伊拉克的' War, there is the nuclear crisis in Iran[i'rɑ:n], and unsettled situation in many places. The vision of us young people may be limited, but the limited vision we do have and care about everyday cannot change our conviction[k?n'vik??n]定罪 that our world does not seem to promise a very bright future before us.

Who is to blame for all this? Of course we can blame the governments: how disappointing they all seem to be: in one moment they are pledging to build a better future for people, and in another moment, they ignite[iɡ'nait]點(diǎn)燃 wars killing more innocent people. But don’t you think that we ordinary folks should also take some responsibilities for, say, elimination[i,limi'nei??n] of poverty? When we quickly rush to schools, work places, or places of entertainment, how many times do we stop to hand over some food to the

deprived[di'praivd] 缺少食物的;缺乏足夠教育的 on the streets? When we are browsing the newspaper for the news about what is going in this world, how often do we stop to think about the actual ways we can help the people who are suffering from

various['vε?ri?s] disastrous[di'zɑ:str?s] situations? In fact how much have we done to help those who are in need just around us?

Dreams are certainly beautiful and indispensable to our life, for they give us inspiration [,insp?'rei??n] and motivation. Plans for the future are certainly necessary, for they provide us with goals and guides. But what is most important is actions on a day-to-day basis. To make our dreams come true, to realize our future goals, we need to base our vision on reality and we need to put our words into our deeds. In other words, while human beings should be, first and foremost, idealists[ai'di?list] 理想主義者and thinkers, we should, all the more be realists['ri?list] and practical doers實(shí)行家.
