  Homemade Ship

Hans Andersen, a life-long fisherman, had a dream. He wanted to sail around the world. And he did it. He got several sponsors who subsidized his trip. He bought a beautiful 40-foot yacht, with all the latest technical and safety gear, and had a pleasant voyage. Well, except for almost sinking while going around the tips of South America and Africa.

The voyage went so smoothly that, looking back on it, he felt it was too easy. He needed a new challenge. He decided to build his own boat. But that was nothing new. Several people had built their own boats and sailed them around the world. No, he needed a unique boat. Watching TV commercials one day, he got it—ice cream sticks! He would be the first man to sail around the world in a boat built exclusively of ice cream sticks.

He put out the word. Within three years, school children from all over Holland had sent Hans 15 million ice cream sticks. He used these sticks to build a 45-foot replica of a Viking ship. After all the sticks were glued together, Hans took his new boat out to sea on a one-week voyage. “It’s magnificent, and totally sea-worthy,” he proclaimed.

He plans to set sail in early 20xx with a crew of two. He will sail across the Atlantic to Canada, and then down to Florida and through the Panama Canal. Then he’ll travel to Los Angeles, Honolulu, Tokyo, around the tip of Africa, and back to Holland. “If this trip succeeds,” he joked, “my next goal will be to build a plane out of ice cream sticks and fly it around the world!”

And I know what you're thinking. You know, I'm up here bagging out inspiration, and you're thinking, "Jeez, Stella, aren't you inspired sometimes by some things?" And the thing is, I am. I learn from other disabled people all the time.

I'm learning not that I am luckier than them, though. I am learning that it's a genius idea to use a pair of barbecue tongs to pick up things that you dropped. (Laughter) I'm learning that nifty trick where you can charge your mobile phone battery from your chair battery. Genius. We are learning from each others' strength and endurance, not against our bodies and our diagnoses, but against a world that exceptionalizes and objectifies us. I really think that this lie that we've been sold about disability is the greatest injustice. It makes life hard for us. And that quote, "The only disability in life is a bad attitude," the reason that that's bullshit is because it's just not true, because of the social model of disability. No amount of smiling at a flight of stairs has ever made it turn into a ramp. Never.

Smiling at a television screen isn't going to make closed captions appear for people who are deaf. No amount of standing in the middle of a bookshop and radiating a positive attitude is going to turn all those books into braille. It's just not going to happen.

Hello, ladies and gentlemen. I’m Li Xin, from Class 8 Grade 1. Today, my topic is, “What can I do for Beijing Olympic Games?”

I am looking forward to the day’s coming--- August eighth 20xx, the day Beijing Olympic Games will be open, the day sports families gather in Beijing, and the day all the Chinese feel proud.

As a little host, I really want to be a volunteer. However, I am too young, but I can still do something for it.

Firstly, as a Chinese, I will welcome every friend from every part of the world. My smile will show my friendship, and the foreign friends are sure to know Beijing better from the smile on my face.

Next, I will study English harder. During the Olympic Games, I can communicate with the foreign friends in English and serve for them, such as to be an interpreter, to show them the way, and let them love Beijing more from my kind help.

Thirdly, I will learn more knowledge about Beijing and the Olympic Games. In this way, I can

introduce beautiful Beijing to foreign guests --- its long history, latest development and the wonderful future. Further more, I’ll try to let them know more about our country by introducing Chinese 5,000—year old history to them.

At last, I will call on every student around me to learn good manners and treasure our only home---the earth. From now on, we should do what we can for the Beijing Olympic Games, making it a real Green Olympics, humanities Olympics, technology Olympics!

“One world, One dream.” I hope my dream will also come true!

Let’s wish the best for the 20xx Olympic Games.

  Thanks for your listening!

In the walls of ice, in the thrones of iron, we see a mirror for our times.

We recognize our own world, where too many live for their tribe alone. Where too often, we listen only to those who think, look, and believe as we do.

Where the game seems rigged against open and free exploration. We hear too few dissenting voices, and we consider too few conflicting views. But remember: None of this is inevitable.

We can glorify our own tribe to the exclusion of others. We can build up our walls, and we can cast down those who are different.

Or we can better use the strength in our hearts and the power in our hands.

Our many identities and beliefs: We make these our threads. Our diverse backgrounds and goals: They become our loom.

From this world of differences, we can weave a tapestry of communities.

Weaving…yeah…weaving is hard work, especially when we interlace many into one. Our identities may clash. Our beliefs diverge. We disagree over where we want to go. We argue about the best way to get there.

But when – together – we embrace the challenge, the cloth of human understanding grows more resilient. We craft something stronger by far…by far than iron thrones and walls of ice.

Hello every one! my name is xxx .Today,I’d like to talk about mother’s love. Only mother’s love is true love .It gives everybody everything in all his life ,When you are still a baby ,mother takes good care of you as much as possible. In your waking hours she always holds you in her arms. When you are ill, she stops her work right now to look after you day and night and forgets about herself. When you are growing up day by day, she feels very happy. When you are old enough to go to school, mother still looks after you all the time. On cold winter days, she always tells you to put on more clothes. She always stands in the window waiting for you back from school. When you are hurry to leave home for school with out breakfast ,she feels worried about you at home. She usually knows about your study and spends much money on your school things . When you do well at school . you will see the brightest smile on her face. Mother is always ready to give everything she has to her children ,not to receive. What true love that is in the world !We will remember Mother love forever.

  A Lesson from Nature

Ladies and gentlemen: Good morning! Today, the title of my speech is A Lesson from Nature.

Around us , there are plants, animals and many other things. We live in nature, so to keep the balance of nature is very important for us. But today, too many trees are still being cut down in many countries and flood all over the world are getting more and more serious, A lot of land has gone with them. This is a lesson from nature.

When people move into a new place, they often cut down trees or pull out many wild plants to make farmland. They don’t know that trees can stop flood and wind from washing or blowing the earth away, and that many of these wild plants are food for some wild animals. If the animals can’t find enough plants to eat, they will die or have to leave the place.

In one part of the United States, for example, the deer there like to eat a kind of wild flowers. The mountain tigers there eat the deer. But people killed many mountain tigers to protect the deer. soon there were so many deer that the ate up all the wild flowers. Then the deer began to eat the green leaves of the young trees .so the farmers thought of ways to protect their trees, then the deer had nothing to eat and many of them died.

The number of trees, deer, tigers, wild flowers and plants has changed much—less and less. We need to do more to keep the balance of nature.

  Thank you

  Li Fushi

  from No.6 middle school.

  What life is about

“Good morning! Ladies and gentlemen”. Today, the title of my speech is “What life is about”

As we all know, the most important thing in life is our attitude towards it, lots of men have tried different ways of treating life, and some succeeded, some failed, and here are some of the tips they left us. Life isn’t about keeping score. Li

Hello, everyone! my name is Lu Yi .I am 13 years old. I am in Class4 Grade7. I am a top student in my class. I like all my subjects, but I like English best. Now, I?ll begin. My topie is:

  What success means to me?

Once upon a time, an old rich woman left all her property to the person who could answer her question correctly. Her question was this “what is the most important thing for a person who wants to succeed?” To my surprise, the answer was not money, not power, not even opportunity, but “ambition”.

Why is ambition so important? A person without ambition is like a near-sighted lion. All the things in the distance appear blurred. No matter how strong it is, it can?t go far.

A lion lives to rule the whole plain. A person must prove that “I am a king here”, at least you are the king of yourself.

Nowadays, the world is very competitive. Even if you get to the top of your own field, there might be still someone better than you. So we have to ask ourselves: what is the proof of success? I believe it is doing something for this world.

Remember: As a successful person, in addition to ambition, the other key you

must hold is love. When you look back at history, you?ll find you were standing on the shoulders of the giants. You have enjoyed what they had left you. So we should live to work for the improvement of the world. From president to citizen, we should all take part in building a new WWW for which I have my own explanation ----it is“of the world, by the world, for the world”. Only as a member of the global village, can you feel you are really successful.

  Making our earth more beautiful

  Students, guests and teachers

  Good morning !

my great pleasure to share my dream with you today. my dream is to become a teacher....

As the whole world has its boundaries, limits and freedom coexist in our life. I don’t expect complete freedom, which is impossible. I simply have a dream that supports my life.

I dream that one day, I could escape from the deep sea of thick schoolbooks and lead my own life. With my favorite fictions, I lie freely on the green grass, smelling the spring, listening to the wind singing, breathing the fresh and cool air and dissolve my soul in nature at last. Simple and short enjoyment can bring me great satisfaction.

I dream that one day the adults could throw their prejudice of comic and cartoon away. They could keep a lovely heart that can share sorrow and happiness with us while watching cartoon or doing personal things. That’s the real communication of heart to heart.

I have the belief that my dreams should come true. I am looking forward to some day coming when I am like a proud eagle, which flies to the blue and vast sky.

as the song goes “ my future isn’t a dream .” i love the song which brings me confidence when singing it every time . i believe that all our dreams can come true if we have courage to pursue them .when i was young my father always asked me what i would be in the future .

sometimes i found it very hard to give a certain reply . “ i want to be a doctor .” “ i want to be a teacher .” and “ i ’d like to be a scientist !” many of these answers are perhaps very childish and ridiculous . but i never think they are far away .

how time flies! who is able to give a definition to his future ? i know clearly that those high buildings are based on solid foundation . as a student , i should have a reasonable aim , and study hard . my goal is to enter the best university for further study after middle school .

i know it’s hard work , and i ’ll come across many difficulties and frustrations . but no matter what they are , i’ll keep working on it and never give up .

my teacher says there ’s only one kind of people that are truly successful : those who are brave enough to put up with hardships .

even if i won’t achieve the goal , i have no regrets for what i have done , for i have struggled for my life .

  Never,Never Give Up

We often hear people say,“Never give up.” These can be encouraging words and words of determination. A person who believes in them will keep trying to reach his goal no matter how many times he fails. In my opinion, the quality of determination to succeed is an important one to have. Therefore,I believe that we should never give up.

One reason is that if we give up too easily,we will rarely achieve anything. It is not unusual for us to fail in our first attempt at something new,so we should not feel discouraged and should try again. Besides,if we always give up when we fail,we will not be able to develop new skills and grow as people. Another reason we should never give up is that we can learn from our mistakes only if we make a new effort. If we do not try again, the lesson we have learned is wasted. Finally,we should never give up because as we work to reach our goals,we develop confidence, and this confidence can help us succeed in other areas of our lives. If we never challenge ourselves,we will begin to doubt our abilities.

In short,it is important that we do not give up when working for our goals. Whether we succeed in the end or not,we will learn something, and what we learn will help us to become better, more confident people. Furthermore,if we give up,we have non chance of attaining our goals, but if we keep trying, there is always a chance that we will succeed one day.

  Thank you!

Dear friends! Do you still remember your first English teacher? You may say:” Yes.” Everyone has his teachers, in my mind, I’ll never forget her---my first English teacher Ms. Li. Without her, I wouldn’t be standing here. She is a young and lovely lady with beautiful eyes. Her voice sounds sweet and she speaks English very well. That was the first impression she left on us when she first gave us an English lesson.

In her class, she taught us carefully and patiently. she has a strange way of making her class lively and interesting. She always made opportunities for us to speak English. She gave us many beautiful pictures to talk on them, played games with us and told us many interesting stories. She made us learn from games. We learned English with great fun. After class she helped the students who had trouble in learning English.

Little by little, I had interest in English, but English was a new subject to me, I had many difficulties in learning it well. I often felt very confused. Even though I wanted to give up learning English. It was Ms. Li who helped me to find ways to overcome my difficulties. She helped me to practice speaking English everyday. She always encouraged me whenever I lost heart. She helped me to have confidence in myself. She gave me what I needed, courage, confidence, good ways to learn

English and opportunities to speak English in class. So I was grateful for her. Maybe I can’t meet her again. The only thing I can give her is my best wishes. I wish my dear teacher happiness, good health and good luck. And I also want to say to her: Thank you, Ms. Li. I love you!
