I read some reviews on Black Swan. A lot of them focus on sexual awakening or identities. However, I feel like discussing the aspects of perfection and schizophrenia in this movie since Ninas last word perfect gives me some clue about its gist. What does it take to be perfect? Just the mere passion to pursue perfection? No, at least not in this movie. Not until Nina has fully transformed into a black swan or I should say not until she has mastered the manipulation of playing both white and black, did she achieve perfection. So implication1: perfection consists of both good and evil. We always thought perfection is about control and precision, but in the movie, the guy kept telling Nina “you got to loosen up” and Lily tried to seduce Nina into an abandoned, depraved life; these contributed to her eventual fledging into a black swan and the presumably success/perfection. Nina’s perfection is achieved thru not only the practice, hard work but also corruption and jealousy. Implication 2: Perfection is a state of balance between precision and wildness. (I felt that this one is kinda lame, but I will try to find a better answer as I get time to ponder it.) Implication3: What is the price of being perfect or being at the top? Horror. Up till she dies, Nina displays constant fears of not being perfect and being replaced by her countless competitors ogling her place. And yes, I am using “ogle” to depict their ferocious, eager desire, which is no less than the almost irresistible sexual desire of humans. Like Chinese have the saying “高處不勝寒”, Nina feels ever more horrified and helpless as the queen swan. Implication 4: Maybe every person is schizophrenic to some extent. Schizophrenia seems to have some inexplicable connection to perfection. I think when we are being honest with ourselves, there are some moments in our lives when we have fantasies and even minor hallucinations. Nina has several hallucinations in the movie; one of which triggers her transformation into a black swan. Maybe schizophrenia can somehow inspire art? I could not arrive at any conclusion regarding this, but think about how some amazing artists in history have created their greatest work as they are tortured by mental illness (for instance, Vincent Van Gogh). Perhaps the highest beauty in art originate from the greatest pain. What general rule did I discover throughout the movie? Every entity seems to contain two contradictory sides, subtly in most cases. This ties back to Ying-yang theory (which my high school English teacher Mrs.Mar has been teaching us.) However, it takes a great deal of external forces and time for a person to explore such polar dynamics within either himself/herself or another object. The influence of Black Swan does not end here; my understandings of the movie will evolve as I move on with my life.【Black Swan (黑天鵝) 讀后感】相關(guān)文章:
