春節(jié)英語作文 篇1
The Chinese New Year is now popularly known as the Spring Festival because it starts from the Begining of Spring (the first of the twenty-four terms in coodination with the changes of Nature). Its origin is too old to be traced. Several explanations are hanging around. All agree, however, that the word Nian, which in modern Chinese solely means "year", was originally the name of a monster beast that started to prey on people the night before the beginning of a new year.
One legend goes that the beast Nian had a very big mouth that would swallow a great many people with one bite. People were very scared. One day, an old man came to their rescue, offering to subdue Nian. To Nian he said, "I hear say that you are very capable, but can you swallow the other beasts of prey on earth instead of people who are by no means of your worthy opponents?" So, it did swallow many of the beasts of prey on earth that also harrassed people and their domestic animals from time to time.
After that, the old man disappeared riding the beast Nian. He turned out to be an immortal god. Now that Nian is gone and other beasts of prey are also scared into forests, people begin to enjoy their peaceful life. Before the old man left, he had told people to put up red paper decorations on their windows and doors at each year's end to scare away Nian in case it sneaked back again, because red is the color the beast feared the most.
From then on, the tradition of observing the conquest of Nian is carried on from generation to generation. The term "Guo Nian", which may mean "Survive the Nian" becomes today "Celebrate the (New) Year" as the word "guo" in Chinese having both the meaning of "pass-over" and "observe". The custom of putting up red paper and firing fire-crackers to scare away Nian should it have a chance to run loose is still around. However, people today have long forgotten why they are doing all this, except that they feel the color and the sound add to the excitement of the celebration.

I put on my clothes listlessly and went to my grandma's house with a careless wash. I thought: mom must not have bought the food. I had no idea what to do with snacks, vegetables, hot pot, and seafood. I thought: all of these dishes will take a lot of time to burn, so I will help my mother to finish the table. I immediately asked my mother to assign tasks to me, and my mother said, "then you can peel my leeks and celery. I think it's hard to see how I can handle it. But when my mother gave me the three basins, I almost fainted. I asked my mother for advice, and my mother told me how to do it, and I went away. My leek was covered with brown soil, the celery was stripped to the backbone, and then I found the trick. After 45 minutes, I finished peeling it. When I brought a bunch of vegetables to my mother, I finally breathed a sigh of relief.
At noon my uncle, my aunt, my grandfather... Came. On the first day of the lunar New Year, when all the guests came, I proposed to move to the front yard, and everyone agreed. People chatted and laughed. On that day, I ate the most delicious food, because there was a piece of me in the table, and during the Spring Festival, you had a special meal.

Although my hometown is not as luxurious as a big city, so beautiful, but one but to the New Year, that is how unforgettable! Now, let me tell you about it.
Once upon a time there was a dark cave in a valley where there lived a monster called nian. There was a small village below the valley, and when the last day of the New Year came, the people in the village would shut the door tightly. However, there is still a way to get into the villagers' homes and eat the villagers' things. There is no way for the villagers. Many villagers went to the city for the Spring Festival. One year, as the villagers were on their way to the city, a fairy said to the villagers, "the monster is most afraid of red things and noise." After the villagers heard the stick red couplets on the door, put off firecrackers in the door, monster, will see red and popping "bang" sound, frighten ran straight into the mountains. In this way, the custom of setting off firecrackers and stickers on New Year's day continues to this day.
During the Spring Festival in my hometown, every family will make a big meal -- the New Year's eve dinner. Every family is busy in the west, cooking a table of vegetables, chicken, fish and so on. Let people see that the mouth water will not stop. After eating, my mother will give me a very handsome dress, adults will give us lucky money, the money in it is not too much!
Chinese New Year is really unforgettable!
